Student Loans

Student loans have been the source of stress for many college graduates. Today the average amount of student loan debt that college graduates have is around $30,000. I can vouch for that because that’s about how much debt I graduated with. Fortunately, I’m not struggling to pay back my student loans at this point but I do sympathize with those who are struggling and I agree with many people that some type of reform needs to take place.

WHY STUDENT LOANS SUCK

The main reason why student loans suck so bad is because they will never go away. There’s literally no way to get out of paying them back. Now I don’t believe that people shouldn’t pay back their debts because I’m clearly paying mine, but I’m also not so naive that I think things will be as easy for others as they have been for me. And it’s more so the idea that you have no way out that’s so daunting. It also sucks to be in your early twenties and thousands of dollars in debt. Especially when you took on said debt to make a better life for yourself. It’s the irony of it all that makes the situation so screwed up for a lot of people. Continue reading

Spaghetti Carbonara

A few days ago I tried making Spaghetti Carbonara. It turned out… “Ok”.

I decided to post this recipe because it really is a good & easy recipe but also because I kind of messed up. Why would I post a recipe that I messed up on? Because most people mess up from time to time and I want anyone who does this recipe to not make the same mistakes that I did.

So the only issues I had with this recipe had to do with BACON.

First of all, the recipe says to “dice” the bacon and I didn’t even know what that meant so I had to google it. As I’m watching a video on dicing bacon and preparing to follow along, the guy in the video says its best to do this while the bacon is frozen. And… My bacon was not frozen. It was too hard to follow the video with my bacon already thaw so I used scissors to cut the bacon up because I’m resourceful. AND uncooked bacon smells just as good as cooked bacon so I was really hungry at this point.

My next screw up came with putting the bacon in the pan. So I didn’t put all the bacon in at the same time. Looking back, I should’ve put it all in at the same but of course hindsight is always 20/20. So some of my bacon got burnt while the other bacon was browning. But it was too late to turn back and I didn’t want to waste anymore bacon, so I proceeded with the recipe (burnt bacon and all).

It wasn’t the worst mishap that could’ve happened but it kind of bummed me out. The food still turned out pretty though. And if you were lucky enough not to get a burnt piece of bacon on your plate, it tasted good too.

My Favorites: Podcasts

I really enjoy listening to podcasts. I like them almost as much as I like listening to music. At this very moment I am subscribed to 10 of them. And I’m constantly looking for more. They provide me with a myriad of knowledge about subjects that are important to me and they are extremely entertaining. Here are my 5 favorite podcasts. These are the ones that I run to listen to as soon as they come out.

THE READ

This is the podcast that started my love of podcasts. In fact, I never even knew what a podcast was prior to listening to The Read. I’ve been listening for about 2 years now, so I don’t remember how I was introduced to Crissle & Kid Fury (it doesn’t really matter anyway). But I love their humor, their take on celebrity, the answers to their Listener Letters, and their political stances. I may not always agree with everything they say but nevertheless, it’s refreshing to hear the perspectives of passionate people who also happen to be incredibly funny. Continue reading
